XPARQ - Parking Technology for the new Millennium

The "All-in-One" IP Parking System

In order to operate a car park, various technical systems are needed to assist the supervising personnel: a ticket and revenue control system to control access and collect fees, an intercom system to communicate with patrons for assistance, and a CCTV video surveillance system to monitor overall security in the car park. Today, these systems are typically provided by different manufacturers, each of them using their own cabling infrastructure.

XPARQ is the industry´s first system to integrate all of this functionality into a single IP network-based system, thereby radically simplifying the installation and operation of car park control systems.

XPARQ offers a range of functionality and flexibility unmatched in the industry:

  • Parking access and revenue control supporting all types of ISO-size cards for identification and payment: barcode, magstripe, smart cards, hands-free transponders
  • Audio intercom system being fully integrated with the revenue control system using the computer and network infrastructure for voice transmission (voice-over-IP technology)
  • Video surveillance and video intercom function also fully integrated with the system using the data network for video transmission (video streaming)
  • All above functions are fully integrated with the operating software, allowing for cross-referencing between video images and revenue control information
  • Automated optical license plate inventory can be easily added as a software-only extension
  • Remote car park management and control using the Internet

Given this unique system design, XPARQ offers a true "one-stop-shopping" solution for parking operators. The system can be scaled to match the size and structure of any car parking operator.

The "Internet-enabled" Parking System

By making maximum use of Internet technology, the XPARQ parking system is ready for the Internet:

  • Multiple sites can be linked over the Internet to be managed as a single entity
  • Tariff changes may be distributed to all related car parks from a central office
  • Management information can be made accessible at any place in the world
  • System maintenance and updates can be done on a worldwide scale at minimum cost
  • Car park information (e. g. occupation, subscription) can be made available to the public via the Internet

The Technology

The technology the XPARQ system is based on marks the current state-of-the-art of information systems technology:

  • All field terminals such as lane controllers and pay stations have their local powerful industrial PC (Pentium-400), which is able to handle ticket processing and streaming video in parallel under real-time conditions. The Linux operating system is used in all devices for maximum stability
  • Lane terminals and pay stations may be equipped with a digital camera to allow for online video communication with a remote operator
  • All lane terminals and pay station provide a colour screen of VGA resolution for most comfortable communication with the user
  • All devices are linked up by a Fast Ethernet network, supporting copper wire, optical fibre or radio communication
  • Communication both within the system and externally is based exclusively on TCP/IP communication protocols
  • The car park controller provides IP-routing, firewall and http-server functionality to allow for easy integration with the Internet.
  • All screen layouts are based on the Internet standard HTML, allowing for easy customization of screens without the need for programming changes
  • By extensively making use of state-of-the art programming languages like JAVA, multi-language / multi-font capabilities are designed into the system. This means that customers using different languages can be easily catered for.
