A large construction company was undertaking a major expansion of a regional hospital and the requirement was to keep strict controls on the contractors operating on site.
We were tasked to provide access control for the following purposes:
Log times of all contractors entering & leaving site
Provide roll call in the event of an emergency site evacuation
Provide full photographic ID cards
Control vehicles accessing car parks
Ensuring of access roads were kept clear for emergency vehicles
Provide all cards and holders, neck chains, etc for 4,000 contractors.
We installed the following equipment to achieve this:
Two full height turnstiles were installed with proximity readers mounted on either side.
Proximity access control readers to the main access doors of the site offices linked to magnetic locks.
Access rights controlled by an on-line software package which can produce a full evacuation report listed by Contractors Company for each of the muster points with just 3 clicks of a mouse.
Full photo ID package complete with digital camera, badge designer and printer.
Two high speed 4 metre barriers complete with safety loops and long range microwave readers to identify authorised vehicles.
Application
By issuing each worker with his own proximity ID card complete with photo it enabled the onsite security guards to quickly and easily identify individuals. To enter site each worker must present his card to an IN reader to allow them passage through the turnstiles. Their time of entry is logged and they will be entered into the evacuation register. The software employs anti=pass back prevention to ensure that two workers do not use the same card to enter site.
When the worker exits site they again present their card to gain egress which removes them from the evacuation register.
Like a lot of Hospitals there is restricted parking on site so to ensure that the designated car park wasn't deluged with vehicles each authorised car was given an active microwave tag which was affixed to the inside of the windscreen.
When the tagged vehicle approaches the car park (at up to 7 metres range) the reader identifies them and automatically raises the barrier. This ensures that there are no queuing vehicles blocking the access roads and possibly impeding emergency vehicles.
RESULT
Our client has reported a significant reduction in wasted man hours compared to other similar sites.
The health & safety manager uses the system to 'yellow card' individuals breaking site safety rules and can temporarily ban them access form site.
The hospital has expressed gratitude in keeping the roads free flowing.
Supervisory staff can quickly check who's on site and for how long.
Utilising the full height turnstiles ensures that each contractor MUST be in possession of a valid access card. Cards are only issued once the contractor has undertaken all relevant health & safety training.
